Marin Strong
Marin Strong, one of our 2026 SCOPE Fellows was recognized as part of the prestigious Husky 100 cohort at the University of Washington. Marin is a PhD candidate in the UW School of Nursing and an MPH student in Epidemiology.
The Husky 100 recognizes undergraduate, graduate, and professional students across UW Bothell, Seattle, and Tacoma who are making the most of their Husky Experience by connecting classroom learning with meaningful impact in their communities and beyond. Students selected for the honor are recognized for their leadership, service, commitment to equity, and ability to apply their education to real-world challenges.
Marin’s recognition reflects her dedication to using research as a tool for advocacy and health equity. In her Husky 100 profile, she highlighted how her UW experience has allowed her to bridge “classroom theory and methodology with community realities,” through work ranging from meeting with policymakers in Olympia and engaging with the United Nations to supporting HIV and STI prevention research for pregnant women in Kisumu, Kenya. Her dissertation research focuses on how relationship dynamics between pregnant women and their male partners influence HIV and STI prevalence in Western Kenya, as well as men’s engagement in partner treatment.
As a SCOPE Fellow, Marin looks forward to collaborating with faith leaders, researchers, medical professionals, and community partners to improve maternal and newborn survival, address obstetric fistula, and advance mental health initiatives globally.
