Blaine Mengistu-Gunn | Johns Hopkins University

Blaine Mengistu-Gunn is a second-year MSPH student in the Health Systems Program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She holds a BA in International Studies from American University with concentrations in Environmental Sustainability & Global Health, Justice, Ethics & Human Rights, with a regional focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, complemented by a minor in Public Health.

Before Hopkins, Blaine worked in international development, where she supported USAID-funded projects focused on health systems strengthening, food security, and global health supply chain management in Senegal, Madagascar, and Nigeria. While at Hopkins, she has also contributed to qualitative research on inclusive sexual and reproductive health for adolescent girls and older women with disabilities within humanitarian settings.

Blaine is excited to join SCOPE as a fellow and deeply values its model of bringing together faith and medicine to improve community health. She is passionate about protecting the health and well-being of vulnerable populations, particularly in humanitarian crises, and is committed to advancing equity through community-driven solutions. Blaine is traveling to Ethiopia in July of 2025.
