Erica Nelson
FELLOW 2010
Erica Nelson, a medical student with an M.Phil in International Peace Studies and Development, helped SCOPE undertake the 2010 community assessment and report of Gondar, Ethiopia, which mined the potential to leverage cooperation with the Ethiopian Orthodox Church to improve HIV/AIDS health care access and uptake. During June, July and August of 2010, she worked as a liaison between SCOPE, the North Gondar Diocese, the Ethiopian Government and multiple local and international NGOs to establish the objectives, design and logistics of the HIV VCT campaign that coincided with public testing of the Archbishop of Gondar and the opening of the North Gondar Diocese museum in November.
Presently, Erica is completing her medical degree at the University of Washington and intends to practice medicine in the context of complex humanitarian crises after completion of an emergency medicine residency and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene.
